Ph.D. program at the University of Engineering & Management is offered in two modes- Full time and Part time (not distance learning). Courseworks on Research Methodology and Computer Applications are mandatory. Other credits on coursework are choice based.

A Full-time Ph.D. scholar shall mean a candidate devoting full time for completing the requirements of the program and should not be employed in any other organization or should not be a student in any other course anywhere, and a part- time Ph.D. scholar shall mean a candidate who is devoting a part of his time towards the pursuit of the program while discharging his official/employment obligations anywhere.

Ph.D. program is for minimum 3 years. Maximum duration is 8 years. UEM encourages co-guide from other organizations but there must be an internal guide, and the internal guide must be the main guide.
