1. Exposure to the fine fraction of particulate matter (PM2.5), has been estimated to cause millions of deaths worldwide each year with epidemiological evidence showing it elevates the risk of acute and chronic cardiovascular and respiratory disease.
2. PM2.5 from different sources varies in toxicity due to difference in particle size distributions and chemical composition.
