Participants were encouraged to understand that environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of government institutions or environmental organizations, but is a shared responsibility of every individual.
Students were particularly encouraged to make small but meaningful changes in their daily lives, such as avoiding unnecessary wastage, maintaining cleanliness, protecting plants and animals, reducing environmentally harmful materials, and promoting sustainable practices.
Turning Environmental Awareness into Action
Tree Plantation Drive
One of the major activities organized as part of the World Environment Day celebration was a large-scale tree plantation drive across different locations of the university campus.
Approximately 100 saplings were planted with the active involvement of students, faculty members, and staff. The plantation activity aimed at increasing the green cover of the campus and contributing towards the creation of a healthier and more sustainable environment.
The activity also provided students with practical exposure to environmental conservation. Through their participation in the plantation drive, students were encouraged to understand the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance, improving air quality, supporting biodiversity, reducing environmental degradation, and creating a healthier living environment.
The tree plantation activity also reinforced the idea that environmental conservation requires continuous care and responsibility. Participants were encouraged not only to plant trees but also to develop a sense of responsibility towards their protection and maintenance.
The activity aimed to increase green cover, support biodiversity, improve air quality and promote ecological balance.
Installation of Bird Water Pots
Considering the high temperatures during the summer season, the programme also included an initiative to support local bird populations. Approximately 50 bird water pots/water feeders were installed at suitable locations across the university campus.
The initiative aimed to provide birds with easy access to drinking water during the hot summer months. It also sought to promote compassion and sensitivity towards urban wildlife among students and members of the university community.
The activity served as a simple yet meaningful example of how individuals can contribute towards biodiversity conservation through small acts of care. Students were sensitized to the challenges faced by birds and other animals due to increasing temperatures, urbanization, and reduced availability of natural water sources.
Cleanliness & Hygiene Drive
A campus cleanliness and hygiene drive was also organized as an integral part of the World Environment Day celebration. Students, faculty members, and staff collectively participated in cleaning various areas of the university premises.
The activity emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment and encouraged participants to take personal responsibility for the cleanliness of their surroundings. The cleanliness drive also highlighted the importance of proper waste disposal and responsible waste management.
Through active participation, students were encouraged to understand that maintaining environmental cleanliness is a continuous process that requires responsible behaviour from every member of the community. The activity further strengthened the values of discipline, teamwork, civic responsibility, and community participation among the participants.
