Celebration of National Sports Day 2026
Honouring the remarkable contribution of Major Dhyan Chand while promoting physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship among students.
Celebrating the Spirit of Sports
The University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Jaipur, observed National Sports Day on 29 August 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students. The programme was organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS), UEM Jaipur, to pay tribute to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and to promote the importance of physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship among students.
National Sports Day is an important occasion to recognise the role of sports and physical activity in the overall development of individuals and society. The celebration encouraged students to understand that sports not only contribute towards physical health but also help in developing important qualities such as discipline, leadership, teamwork, dedication and the spirit of fair play.
The programme provided students with an opportunity to actively participate in different sporting activities while remembering and honouring the remarkable contribution of Major Dhyan Chand to Indian sports.
Objectives of the Programme

Remembering a Sporting Legend
The programme commenced at 4:30 P.M. at the Basketball Court of the University of Engineering & Management, Jaipur. Students gathered enthusiastically to participate in the celebration and pay tribute to Major Dhyan Chand.
The programme began with a respectful remembrance of Major Dhyan Chand and his immense contribution to Indian hockey and the sporting history of the nation. Participants were reminded of his dedication, discipline and extraordinary achievements, which continue to inspire generations of young sportspersons.
The gathering highlighted the importance of adopting the values represented by Major Dhyan Chand, including dedication, hard work, discipline and commitment towards excellence.
An Inspiring Student Address
An inspiring speech was delivered by student Anshul Pathak, who highlighted the remarkable contribution of Major Dhyan Chand to Indian sports.
The speech also emphasised the importance of sports and physical activity in the overall development of an individual. Students were encouraged to recognise that regular participation in sports contributes to physical fitness, mental well-being, discipline and the development of a positive attitude.

A Commitment to Fitness, Health & Sportsmanship
On the occasion of National Sports Day, the participating students also took a National Sports Day Pledge.
Through the pledge, students reaffirmed their commitment towards maintaining physical fitness, adopting a healthy lifestyle and upholding the values of discipline and sportsmanship.
The pledge also encouraged students to respect fellow players, follow the principles of fair play and contribute towards promoting a positive sporting culture.
Three Sporting Matches
As a tribute to the immense legacy and contribution of Major Dhyan Chand, three sporting matches were organized in his memory. The activities provided students with an opportunity to participate actively in sports and demonstrate their physical abilities, teamwork and sporting spirit.
Basketball Match
A basketball match was organized with the enthusiastic participation of students. The match encouraged participants to demonstrate teamwork, coordination, quick decision-making and discipline.
The activity created an energetic and positive atmosphere and provided students with an opportunity to experience the importance of collective effort and cooperation in achieving common goals.
Badminton Match
A badminton match was also organized as part of the National Sports Day celebration. Students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated concentration, physical endurance and sporting discipline.

Football Match
A football match was organized with active participation from students. The match highlighted the importance of teamwork, coordination, leadership, perseverance and strategic thinking.

More Than 80 Students
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 80 students. The active involvement of students reflected their interest in sports and physical activities.
Students participated actively in the sporting matches and demonstrated qualities such as teamwork, dedication, discipline and perseverance. The programme provided an opportunity for students to interact, cooperate and work together in a healthy and positive environment.

The programme also provided students with an opportunity to develop important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, cooperation and perseverance.
The celebration demonstrated the important role of NSS in promoting not only social responsibility but also the overall physical, mental and personal development of students.
Fit, Healthy and Active India
The National Sports Day 2026 celebration at the University of Engineering & Management, Jaipur, was successfully conducted on 29 August 2026 with enthusiastic participation from more than 80 students.
The programme successfully combined awareness about the life and legacy of Major Dhyan Chand with practical sporting activities. The tribute, student speech, National Sports Day Pledge and the three sporting matches—Basketball, Badminton and Football—made the celebration meaningful and engaging.
