Supervision


  1. A Supervisor, under whom a registered candidate shall work, shall be a teacher of the University holding a Doctorate degree and/or possessing adequate research experience as evidenced by publications, provided that, if the teacher her/himself is registered for a Ph.D. degree, s/he shall not be eligible for appointment as Supervisor until s/he is awarded the degree. The Supervisor shall be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Doctorate Committee.
  2. In exceptional cases, the Doctorate Committee may recommend appointment of a Supervisor from outside the University. A teacher/scientist/engineer and technologist from any recognized university/institute/industry having adequate research experience as evidenced by his/her doctoral degree and publications in referred journals, and desiring to supervise a registered candidate of the University, will apply in the prescribed form to be forwarded by the head of the institution where s/he is working, and this application shall be recommended by the Doctorate Committee for approval of the Vice Chancellor.
  3. The Doctorate Committee may recommended an Officer of the University, holding a Doctorate degree and possessing adequate research experience as evidenced by publications, as a Supervisor for a Ph.D. programme; provided that, if the officer her/himself is registered for a Ph.D. degree programme, s/he shall not be eligible for appointment as Supervisor until s/he is awarded the degree.
  4. The Doctorate Committee of each Faculty Council will constitute a Ph.D. Research Committee either for every department/school. Such a Committee shall comprise the following members:
