Inaugural session of the All India Inter University Gatka Men and Women Tournament organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), hosted by the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), JAIPUR with participants from all across the country – 20th July, 2023.
The inaugural session of the All India Inter University Gatka Men and Women Tournament, held at the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Jaipur on July 20, 2023.
The event was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Biswajoy Chatterjee. In his inaugural address, Prof. Chatterjee highlighted the importance of Gatka as a martial art and its rich cultural heritage. He said that Gatka is a symbol of Indian pride and that it is important to preserve and promote this tradition. He also congratulated the organizers of the tournament for their efforts in bringing together the best Gatka players from all over India.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Registrar of the University, Prof. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma. He welcomed the participants to the tournament and wished them all the best. He also expressed his gratitude to the organisers of the event.
The guest speaker for the occasion was Principal Baljinder Singh Toor, General Secretary, Gatka Federation of India. He spoke about the history of Gatka and its importance in India’s Independence Movement. He also urged the participants to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship and to uphold the values of Gatka.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. B.S. Yadav, the Director of Physical Education and Sports at the University of Engineering and Management. He thanked the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar, the guest speaker, and the sponsors for their support. He also thanked the participants for their participation and wished them all the best in the tournament.
