Prof. Susmita Sur Koley from ISI (Indian Statistical Institute) came to the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata and addresed the students and teachers of the University. Prof Koley Susmita Sur-Kolay received the B.Tech.(Hons.) degree in Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Jadavpur University India. She has been a faculty member in the Advanced Computing and Microelectronics Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, India since 1999 and is presently a Professor. During the period 1993-99, she was a Reader in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Jadavpur University. Prior to that, she was a post-doctoral fellow at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Research Assistant at the Laboratory for Computer Science in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was also on sabbatical at Princeton University and Intel Corp., USA. Her research contributions are in the areas of electronic design automation for VLSI physical design, fault modeling and testing, synthesis of quantum computers, and graph algorithms. She has co-authored several technical papers in leading international journals and refereed conference proceedings, and a chapter in the Handbook on Algorithms for VLSI Physical Design Automation. She was the Technical Program Co-Chair of the 18th International Conference on VLSI Design (2005),the 11th Symposium on VLSI Design and Test (2007), ISVLSI 2011 and has served on the program committees of several international conferences. She has served on the editorial board of the IET Computers and Digital Techniques, and IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems. She is a Distinguished Visitor of IEEE Computer Society (India), Senior Member of IEEE, Member of ACM, IET and VLSI Society of India. Among other awards, she was the recipient of the President of India Gold Medal (summa cum laude) at IIT Kharagpur (1980), IBM Faculty Award (2009).

Date of the event : 17th January 2017 The program is being organized in association with Bihar Council on Science & Technology (BCST, DST), Govt of Bihar. More than 1000 school students are coming to the event participating in Quiz, Debate, Mathematics Olympiad, Robotics Exhibition, Science Model competitions. Two IAS officers are coming to the event. The Director of Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Bihar is also a Chief Guest of the event. A team of 17 teachers and students have gone to the event from UEM to organize it successfully. Along with technical studies, preparation for Government job is a regular feature at University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata. A class is going on for government job training at UEM Kolkata.

Mr. Subhajit Dutta Chowdhury, student of IEM-UEM group, former SPIE student chapter President got a direct chance of pursuing higher studies in the world famous Delft University of Technology in Micro-electronics at Netherlands. Subhajit held the post of President of SPIE India student chapter. SPIE is an American organization. It's India chapter at the IEM-UEM group is headed by Prof. Indrani Bhattacharya, professor, University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata.

On 3rd October, 2016 students of University of Engineering & Management (UEM) Kolkata - SPIE & OSA Student Chapter members participated in Student Lecture Series. 11 groups participated with 3 students per group and they gave #presentations on various classical as well as contemporary area like Wave Optics, Optical Fibre Technology, PV technology, LIGO, Li-fi technology, Quantum Computing, Graphene & Carbon Nanotubes, Non-destructive measurement techniques in #engineering, Photodetectors etc. The chief guest was Shyamal K.
