The importance of trees in purifying the air, as natural resources, maintaining the ecological balance, preventing soil erosion, as medicines, habitats for faunal species, providing nutrients to the soil etc. is well known. Thus, understanding the importance of trees in our nature, Tree Plantation program was held at the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata.
Trees were planted by –
1) Shri G. K. Pillai, IAS, Chancellor, UEM Jaipur, Former Union Home Secretary, Govt of India, Member, Board of Directors, TATA International.
2) Prof Dr Basudeb Barman, Former Vice-Chancellor, Kalyani University.
3) Prof Dr Satyajit Chakrabarti, Chancellor, UEM Kolkata.
4) Shri Amit Kiran Deb, IAS, Former Chief Secretary, Govt of West Bengal.
5) Prof Dr T. K. Nath, Former Chairperson, AICTE.
