
University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Jaipur successfully conducted a one-day IPR Awareness Workshop and Training Program on March 22, 2025, to spread awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) among students, faculty, and professionals.
The session commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, followed by the opening address by Prof. Dr. Biswajoy Chatterjee, Vice-Chancellor, UEM Jaipur. He warmly welcomed all dignitaries and highlighted UEM Jaipur’s achievements in patent filings, emphasizing the role of deep technical knowledge in enhancing patent success.
Shri V. Saravana Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Rajasthan, spoke about the evolution of patent and copyright laws in India, the importance of protecting trade secrets, and the IPR policy of Rajasthan.
Prof. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Registrar, UEM Jaipur, expressed gratitude to the DST, Rajasthan, for funding the workshop. He emphasized the importance of understanding the intricacies of patent filing.
The technical sessions witnessed an enlightening discourse by distinguished experts:
Mr. Manish Soyal, Examiner of Patents and Designs at the Intellectual Property Office, New Delhi, provided a comprehensive overview of IPR, covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, and plant variety protection (SCLD).
Mr. Govind Sharma, former Chief of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Ministry of Science and Technology, elaborated on the importance of patents, the filing process, and real-world case studies showcasing the impact of effective IP strategies.
Mr. Kumar Tushar Srivastava, Founder and Managing Partner, Advocate, and Registered Indian Patent and Trademark Agent, conducted a detailed session on copyrights and trademarks, discussing their legal frameworks, dispute resolution, and their role in branding and business growth.
Prof. Dr. G. Uma Devi, Associate Dean, Engineering, UEM Jaipur, delivered an insightful session on Industrial Design and Geographical Indications (GI). She discussed Geographical Indications, elaborating on famous GI-tagged products available in the market and the registration process for obtaining a GI tag.
The workshop was highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in Q&A sessions and discussions.
The event concluded with Dr. Govind Rai Goyal expressing esteemed gratitude towards DST Rajasthan, participants, guests, speakers, and all committee members for their valuable contributions.
