The University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Jaipur conducted a seminar on “Impact of Transboundary Forest Fires on Air Pollution & Human Health Risks,” organized by the Civil Engineering Department in association with IIC and E-Cell.
Key Insights from the Distinguished Lecture Programme:
• PM2.5 and Health Risks: Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) poses a significant global health threat, contributing to millions of deaths annually by increasing the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
• Variability in Toxicity: The health impact of PM2.5 varies depending on its source, as differences in particle size and chemical composition influence its toxicity.
• Wildfire Emissions: PM2.5 from wildfires has been linked to higher mortality rates, with emerging evidence suggesting it may be more harmful than PM2.5 from other sources.
