If a direct address form is used\u2026the \u2018YOU<\/strong>\u2019 stands for the reader, assumed
\nto be a student.<\/p>\n

(1)Before you start writing anything on the answer sheets, read the
\nINSTRUCTIONS<\/strong> carefully, this can be considered as the warm-up session.<\/p>\n

(2)Read the entire Question\u00a0 paper minutely to identify questions which are rooted to your comfort zone. A strategic policy towards attempting questions and avoiding the unknown may work positively .<\/p>\n

State the Question numbers clearly\u2026.if you are attempting an OR part, then
\nwrite Q 5 (OR) (i)\u2026.this is explicit. If your answer spills to another
\npage ,it is a good idea to write ( Q 5 OR (i)\u2026contd.)<\/p>\n

(3) Begin with a question in which you are HIGHLY COMFORTABLE.<\/strong>
\nNegative impressions are created in the Examiners when they visualize scratch-outs or scribbles\u00a0 on the very first question attempted.<\/p>\n

(4) NEVER EVER begin the answer to a question with the symbol
\n=>( implies that sign). This symbol should be preceded by some
\nSTATEMENT.<\/strong> After a statement, the symbol reveals a CONCUSION.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(5) If you are asked to state a theorem, just state the theorem and
\nmove ahead. Don’t indulge yourself in providing unnecessary examples.
\nBut if the Question says \u201c State the theorem of \u2026\u2026\u2026..,and illustrate with an
\nexample\u201d,\u00a0 then you must provide an example. Else your answer will considered as incomplete, and will favour a marks deduction.<\/p>\n

(6) Quite often students fail to understand the difference between
\n\u201c HENCE prove that \u201c & \u201c HENCE OR OTHERWISE prove that\u201d<\/strong>.
\nHere is a good example from MATRICES :<\/strong><\/p>\n

(a)State the Cayley \u2013Hamilton theorem. HENCE find the inverse of
\nthe following 3X 3 matrix\u2026\u2026
\nIf the question is stated as above, your hands are tied and
\nfinding the inverse by using the process will not be a footstep towards the credit marks.<\/p>\n

(b) If however the Question says \u201c State the Cayley Hamilton
\ntheorem. Hence,OR otherwise, find the inverse of the
\nfollowing 3X3 matrix. You are FREE to use ANY method
\nto find the inverse. You are free to implement your methodologies.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Two examples are from Laplace Transforms\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Q: Find the LT of HENCE evaluate the integral
\nThe result of the first part MUST BE used.<\/p>\n

Q:State the Laplace transform of
\nUse the relation between and to find the LT of the
\nlatter function.
\n( The relation MUST be stated and the
\ndifferentiation property for LT has to be used.)<\/p>\n

(7) If a particular process is specified it must be applied and
\nused. For Example :
\nQ: Use the method of Variation of Parameters to find a
\nparticular solution to the differential equation\u2026\u2026(given) IS QUITE DIFFERENT FROM :<\/strong><\/p>\n

Q: Find a particular solution to the differential equation(given)In the first case you have NO OPTION<\/strong> other than the variation of Parameters method.<\/p>\n

In the second case you may choose any appropriate method.<\/strong><\/p>\n

(8) In questions on statistics it\u2019s always advisable to copy given
\ndata in a tabular form.(should be filled in neatly. Using a ruler
\nto create the table is recommended)<\/p>\n

If you are using upper and lower case letters please specify
\ntheir relationships. For example X = x – Y = y – are to be<\/strong>
\nstated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since the questions related to\u00a0 statistics will need inserting data into formulas
\nit is always a good practice to state the appropriate formulas
\nBEFORE<\/strong> inserting the data( take a look at the allotted marks)<\/p>\n

(8) Avoid answers which are circuitous and ambiguous.
\nExaminers prefer crisp answers, which are to the point.The allotted marks
\nfor any question generally gives a fair idea about about the length of the answer.<\/p>\n

(9) If you want to make a point,make it directly.Beating about
\nthe bush will land you nowhere.<\/p>\n

(10) It is a good practice to show your rough work on the
\nsame sheet as the main answer.Small windows can be created
\nfor this purpose,with\u00a0 \u201c rough work<\/strong> \u201c written on the
\ntop of each such window.<\/p>\n

The examiner develops\u00a0 an impression about your competence and
\nability THROUGH WHAT YOU WRITE.<\/strong><\/p>\n
